for clarinet, viola and piano
composed 1988, revised 1993; duration 14 minutes
commissioned by the Kvist Trio
world premiere Århus (Denmark) 1988
Martin Kejser – clarinet; Lars Kvist – viola; Niels Nørager – piano

A well-established development from the neurotic and introvert through conscious attempts to finally overcoming this situation characterizes the piece. The quiet, yet uncomfortable opening is quite short, and is followed by a long, increasingly intense attempt at breaking out of the apparent deadlock. But then, when giving in, room is made for a poetic expression not governed by any conscious attempt or desire. This section becomes the central part of the piece, as it in an unhurried fashion develops and concludes.
