Double Image

for flute and guitar solo with string orchestra (min. 4,3,2,2,1)
composed 1994; duration 16 minutes
commissioned by Sønderho International Guitar Festival
world premiere Sønderho International Guitar Festival (Denmark) 1994
Lars Graugaard – flute; Jørgen Bjørslev – guitar
Aarhus Young Strings; Erling Kullberg- conductor

The piece is focused on the combined energy of the soloists. This energy is of a nature that often would have one soloist as sufficient, but the combined effort gives a blurred effect that proves the title – the double image – to be a juxtaposing of images, rather than a traditional family portray. The string orchestra plays a secondary role, but is crucial in setting a framework for the at times somewhat uncontrolled exclamations of the soloists.
