composed 2000/01; duration 22 minutes

The fundamental idea for ‘Recorders’ was to use tempo relations and very small and gradual changes of these as building-blocks for the form of the piece. These tempo relations and fluctuations result in ‘consonant’, pulse-like relations and more remote, ‘disonant’ relations. To emphasize this the players are placed each in front, to the extreme left and the extreme right of the audience, while the exact tempo relations are maintained through click-tracks. This results in a ‘perfect match’ which seems contradictory to their distance in space. This was also the reason for choosing three similar instruments, originaly recorders. The computer interaction takes place from the second section and onwards, and is an attempt at a vertical interpretation of the mentioned tempo relations, now in terms of transposing and transforming aspects and artefacts of the timbres and playing. The third and last section is a gradual relaxing of the procedures.
