Flesh Echoes

for two violas
composed 1999; duration 4 minutes
commissioned by Albrecht Rohde
world premiere Kunstmuseum Bern (Switzerland) 1999
Albrecht and Mark Rohde – viola

The players create a vivid, acoustic field of vibrating sonority, where the actions become the ‘flesh’ and the created room of resonance becomes the ‘echo’. A permanent play by accent and reverberation is started, and the progression of the instrumental colours as well as the harmonies suggest a kind of undulation which drives the music forwards.
