The work falls in three parts, followed by an epilogue. The first part is characterized by slow tempo, soft loudness and small loudness variation, a general legato playing style, a bit of rubato with soft and round note attacks, soft timbre and low duration contrast. The second part still has a moderate tempo and relative consonance in pitch combinations. But it is dominated by high and quite constant loudness, high pitch range, large melodic range in bright timbral textures as well as regular and firm rhythms with little rubato. The last section is consonant and of medium loudness with few loudness changes. The pitch is generally low with a small melodic range, regular and firm rhythm, legato playing with sharp attack and small timing variations. The epilogue uses textures first presented in Three Etudes for Piano.
