Frenzy!

for clarinet solo
composed 1999; duration 2 minutes
commissioned and premiered by Guido Arbonelli

The piece opens with continued, extremely fast playing in the medium-low register. The flow of notes is constant, but the grouping and shaping of the miniature phrases vary continuously. The defined space expands and contracts slowly, gradually descending. Finally, the character changes to sustained notes, and the player is directed to sing while playing.

Premiered by the Italian clarinetist Guido Arbonelli in his showcase 42 MINUTES WITH 42 COMPOSERS. The collection of pieces for the whole family of clarinets range from the most traditional classical up to cutting-edge avant-gardism. Frenzy! falls into the latter category.
