Timid Souls

for flute and tape
composed 1989-90, revised 1995-96; duration 10 minutes
world premiere II Danish Composers’ Biennale (Denmark) 1990
Lars Graugaard – flute

The piece was originally made for flute and interactive computer, but later a version was made for tape and click track. A cascading technique is used for controlling the tape sounds, whereby certain pitches would result in a burst of pitches and sonic colourings. This propels the soloist into the next event, and dynamic intensity on the smaller scale articulates the intensities on a larger scale, giving shape to the piece.
