Three Studies

for large orchestra (3,3,3,3/4,3,3,1/harp,2perc/strings)
composed 1986, revised 1987; duration 12 minutes
world premiere Sønderborg (Denmark) 1986
South Jutland Symphony Orchestra; Matthias Aeschbacher – conductor

The first study consists in a succession of gestural entities of contrasting instrumentation. As the piece proceeds, these elements a pushed against each other, resulting ultimately in a synthesis of the elements.

The second study is a huge web which gradually becomes visible as the strings climb their way up through it’s intricacies. The last study is a fast toccata.
