Trio

for flute, viola and harp
composed 1989-90; duration 12 minutes
world premiere Copenhagen (Denmark) 1989

The piece is in three movements. The second movement is based on the idea – for the first time seen in Transformations – of a single gesture which slowly develops through a number of repetitions. But here the gesture is only one single note, which by the time the movement ends has expanded into a full phrase of 6 measures. The outer movements take on the function of contrast, lending the composition as a whole a quite classical impression.
