Rose-Dèclic

for violin and piano
composed 1992; duration 6 minutes
commissioned by Walter Gaffron
world premiere Summartonar (Faroe Islands) 1992
Walter Gaffron Duo

The violin is throughout set in very soft dynamics, and the notation is loose in the coordination of detail, yet strict in overall form and in the balancing of elements. The piano plays mostly tremolos and trills a una corda, and this gives the piece an eerie and unreal quality. At the climax, the violin is pushed into it’s extreme high register, while the piano moves into it’s very low register.
