Trio no. 2

for violin, cello and piano
composed 1986; duration 12 minutes

The trio is a free development seven 3-note cells and four 5-note cells. The initial textures are subdued and restrained, but after a dialogue between violin and cello just over halfway through the piece, a new direction and conviction is found. The energy turns into a frenzy which rips the music apart, and isolated exclamations prevail, before the instruments find a final accord.
