Behind Your Hands

for accordion and interactive computer (max/msp)
composed 2003; duration 13 minutes
world premiere november 18 2004
Bratislava Music Academy; Peter Katina, accordion
commissioned by Janne Rättyä

The interaction between instrument and computer in the first part of the composition is in the form of a symbiosis where their mutual, timbral balance is shaped by the perceived intensity. Later, rhythms break in, where timing is based on algorithms while timbre is based on performance analysis. A canonic section of some repose precede the final eruption of great intensity and insistence, requiring great stamina from the performer.
