Right after playing an appealing yet short set with Dan Overholt at NIME 2011 on June Wednesday 1st, I went to a squatters’ house in Oslo center where I played a full Lars from Mars set. I really enjoy this kind of transversality, and it goes all the way into the code, as I nowadays even used the same performance patch both places. It is capable of strong, big beats at one moment, and intricate structures and complex sound at the next. Unluckily, I blew the subwoofers at the squatters’ house(!).
The NIME 2011 concert was at Betong next to the Music Academy, while the squatted building was in city center, just next to a police station. With a splendid view over the large and beautiful square, several political parties and other organizations have their main administrative buildings in the same area. The crowd was very responsive, and I played a string of 128bpm tracks with plenty of interaction.
