Played a set at Moloko’s Astro Microbar recently. Half of it was new repertory, half was recent 129 bpm material. It was the longest set I’ve played so far –2,5 hours in total. The length of the set surprised me, as thought that I would be short of material. But as it turned out, the material (and the audience) was very responsive to extended ideas and contrasts. The were quite a few ‘happy moments’ where the music reached states of sustained trance that just could go on and on, applying slight changes and subtle musical devices.
The new material I had prepared will eventually be used on a new PuebloNuevo release, but I would like to incorporate a few ideas into the programming, to give more flexibility and variation possibilities to each subsections. The 129 bpm material I would like to cool down to a more deep mix, possibly for release on another label – but definitely for more club playing aimed at less concentrated listening. But all in all a very, very nice and promising evening!
