My performance patch has grown steadily over the years, but recently much more as I have begun to incorporate realtime interaction with instrumental players. There is obviously a big difference between what I do as Lars from Mars and my interactive score pieces, but the fact that I am more and more into realtime improvisation with instrumentalists make it very logical to try to unite these two worlds. And after all, they may be rather different, but they both live within the same person! Furthermore, many of my older interactive pieces have elements that point to work that I late began developing as Lars from Mars. One consequence that this has had is that I was forced to get the new MacBook Pro i7, to be able to run my pieces at good timing. In particular, it was a bit unnerving in a piece that combined realtime audio with computer vision, which is something that max/msp/jitter does not do too well without quite a bit of grooming. I really hope that a new generation laptops will come out that provide a solid jump in performance – and m/m/j 6, of course!
